A Desperate Attempt

We have just begun another of our four days ‘off’.  When we return to work on Monday we will begin our final month of volunteering at Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge.  WOW!  Time has flown by and we have more photos than we could ever possibly imagine which is why we are now at the point of making a desperate attempt to at least be caught up by the time we leave here.

So, we’ll begin this post with photos from a drive Nicole took to the waterfowl management area one day (way back when... the leaves were still on the trees).

A few days later we took a walk on the Nature Trail to see how the Desert Holly was doing.  Pretty sure we just missed the flowers but we really aren’t sure.  Either way it was still pretty.

Moving right along, on another day off, we took a drive out to what would probably be our favorite place on the refuge, the grasslands.

It was an excellent drive that began with a rather long game of hide and seek with a Greater Roadrunner.  Meep Meep!

IMG_0652
It would begin with a peek and a ‘Dare you to find me!’

IMG_0654
‘I’m good!  Do you give up yet?’

IMG_0656
‘Hey!  Using a zoom lens is most definitely cheating.’

IMG_0657
‘Certainly you cannot see me behind this blade of grass.’

IMG_0658
‘Especially when I turn to my skinny side.’

IMG_0660
                                            ‘Where did I go?’

IMG_0661
‘It’s been fun but Game Over.  I’m outta here!’

IMG_0661
‘But first, I will flash my watch out predators eye colors to scare you off.’

On that note we too shall make and exit and continue our grasslands drive in the next post.

Until then...
