We’ve got a Nature Trail here at the Refuge. It is a tad over a mile long on both packed and soft sand (in the wash) and hosted some things we hadn’t seen before. In season the flowers are probably quite spectacular considering what we saw on our walk at the end of the season. We saw some on this trail that we hadn’t yet seen anywhere else on the refuge. As for critters they must have already been hibernating. All except one bug who was sunning on a bench. Well, here’s the photos. Enjoy.
Not sure yet what it is other then pretty.
These flowers are what we would call...
This poor puppy was growing literally in the middle of the trail.
Being in New Mexico we weren’t too sure what to make of its
pepper-like shape. Later we discovered it was a real devil.
That is because once it dries out it takes on its more recognizable shape as the
Devils Claw.
Some of the Desert Holly is finished.
