Nicole likes to walk in the wash. These are some of the things she saw.
The wash is an endless series of turns with something new around each corner.
The whole time you’re walking you are either watching or being watched.
One of the best things to watch is how the sunlight wraps itself into everything.
Is this a Sage Sparrow spying on me?
This sure looks like a Say’s Phoebe on the lookout.
Looking toward the Pinos Mtns. Hard to believe the refuge stretches all the way over there.
Patient, poised and posed for the photo.
Or is it that he’s missing a leg and can’t get away?
But what is that on his forehead? Web searches turned up nothing... yet.
Watch (or Ouch!) as you round the bend.
This Darkling Beetle put in such extra effort to elevate its hind-parts in order to
emit its defensive foul-smelling fluid that it kept flipping itself over. Eventually,
a stable position was obtained.
The Twin Leaf Senna has gone to seed and with that we have finally completed
the month of October 2014 at Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge!
