We knew that we were ready to head back toward the Port Aux Basque ferry. In our typical fashion, however, there would be no rush. So, we've been sauntering along with a few side trips here or there to check out some inland stuff.
Before getting inland for a bit we still had to finish up the coastal part of our drive. We left our ocean-view, overnight spot somewhere near Renews and did the usual dips in and out of small towns and scenic bay / cove areas.
Somewhere before Ferryland we spotted some Greylag Geese
and a handsome Northern Pintail hanging out on a pond.
Ferryland's cove has a bunch of small islands inside of it. Very pretty.
We jumped on the TCH and the scenery went from oceans and bays to mountains and lakes.
That lasted a good bit until we reached Arnold's Cove where we stopped at their Bird Sanctuary on Placentia Bay to watch the
As usual, we also enjoyed the views.
In Gander, we had a wonderful late afternoon stroll at Cobb's Pond.
The birds were singing up a storm and we saw lots of familiar feathered friends.
It was nice to see and listen to so many birds and to see a bit more of spring.
It was also nice to mark off two more birds on our life list like this Swamp Sparrow
and this, the most awesome, Wilson's Snipe.
On yet another inland exploration we visited the Thomas Howe Demonstration Forest. There are some wonderful trails throughout with some quite informative boards.
On this day though, one of the hottest we've had on island, there were also a lot of bugs.
Still, we persevered and took in a couple of trails
That's all for now. More to come. Still moseying along.
