Two posts in two days! There's just no telling what we'll do. HA HA
Actually, Nicole is ready to prime and paint a bunch of old and new van parts. Mother Nature however has other ideas and has turned too cold for the recommended painting temps and too rainy to use our outdoor painting rack. So, to the blog it is!
Now that you've seen the video we'll share some photos of our brief time in Yellowstone National Park. We have so many pictures! Yellowstone is possibly one of the most photogenic places we've been to. There are so many colors and they are constantly shifting and changing in this 'active' park.
In case you haven't figured out by watching the video, we barely scratched the surface of Yellowstone in terms of tourism. However, as we mentioned, we have both been there before and so our main focus was on driving in from the north entrance and seeing what we could see as we headed out the south entrance. We also did our best to explore the less crowded pull outs and parking lots that other people were passing up on their way to the classics like Old Faithful.
Without further adieu.
Nearby fires and a cold front provided some dramatic weather scenes
as we waited our turn at the entrance gate.
Our first view of the Mammoth Hot Springs Terraces.
Depending on what angle you approach Mammoth Hot Springs it can look as if there is nothing going on.
Yet, under pretty much everything in Yellowstone... something is going on.
And, when it makes its way to the surface, and mixes with a cold day like the one we started out with
With the cold came quite a bit of wind and if we waited long enough the steam would blow away for a minute.
The colors of Cleopatra Terrace
old and new blend together to create an attractive palette.
Even in this unique environment the tiniest of critters thrive. Darlene spotted this one hiding under a ledge of sediment.
Each part of the terraces was unique.
In this particular location the terraces took on a pretty layered look.
The sound and visual of the water cascading down was mesmerizing.
We could have spent days at this one spot taking photos of every little detail.
Without getting too sciencey... heat loving micro-organisms form these beautiful designs.
Some were in repetitive lacy patterns.
Others were just mounds or more freeform designs.
Reportedly, there are different organisms that form different patterns.
These terraces are artistic from both far away and up close and we have so many photos.
So, for now... we'll leave you there and return soon to share more.
