Our supervisor took us on a really awesome lunch break jaunt the other day.
This is Ubehebe Crater – pronounced U-Bee-Hee-Bee.
There are two people standing on one of the gray trails. Can you see them? It’s THAT big.
We had been seeing black and white photos of the crater for several weeks now. Actually, all of the photos we’ve been looking at for the last month are black and white. So, it was a bit of a shock to see all of the color in the crater.
And while the colors in the crater and distant mountains are plentiful, perhaps the neatest part of this area is how it turns to this deeply volcanic scene within the blink of an eye.
We got a workout walking around the whole crater…
… and then some …
… can you see the cars (white specks) on the left edge of the photo?
There are several smaller craters in the same location. Including this one called Little Hebe.
Essentially, the views in any direction were just incredible.
Death Valley certainly continues to impress us at every turn.
There’s more in our post titled The Valley – Part 5. Check it out!
